Jack Osbourne Flips Out in Los Feliz

SELLER: Jack Osbourne
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $2,998,000
SIZE: 4,810 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: He only bought it (about) 2.5 years ago, in December 2011, for $2,820,000, but rock 'n' roll scion and reality t.v. denizen Jack Osbourne (Haunted Highway, Dancing With The Stars, I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! NOW!) flipped his house in L.A.'s Los Feliz area back on the open market yesterday with an asking price of $2.998 million. Current listing details show the gated and thoroughly renovated 1926 Spanish wraps itself around three sides of a central courtyard and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 4,810 square feet.*

A double-height entrance hall with vintage tile floors and a wrought iron railed staircase leads into a generously proportioned "formal" living room with chunky chimney breast with carved stone (or possibly poured concrete) mantelpiece. There are medium-toned hardwood floors underfoot and a muscular exposed wood ceiling with heavy duty trusses. The nearby formal dining room, where there's a framed Union Jack on the wall, looks a wee compact for a house of this size but does connect conveniently through a pair of arched doorways directly into a very large and well-equipped center island kitchen.

The kitchen's walls appear to be covered entirely in white subway tiles—which we love love love, the counter tops are a mix of black and white slab marble and the appliances high grade and commercial style. In addition to a two-stool snack counter at the double-wide center island there's a built-in banquette for casual meals tucked up into the corner.

A wide archway in the kitchen leads through to a library/family room furnished with little more than an intricately patterned rug, a plush, navy blue section sofa, and a metallic coffee table we'd give our pinky toe to own. There are heavy wood beams across the ceiling and full wall, floor-to-ceiling with built-in book shelves nicely lined with actual books. Another and also wide archway smack in the center of the book shelf wall connects through to a home office (or something) that opens to a rear terrace.

There are two en suite guest and family bedrooms on the upper floor plus a roomy master suite with vintage-style bathroom and several sets of French doors that open to a slender veranda that overlooks the central courtyard. A separate and self-contained but attached guest house accessible via exterior staircase above the street-facing garage has wood floors, a vaulted and beamed ceiling, and a small but complete kitchen with two-burner stove top and under-counter refrigerator.

In addition to the multi-level central courtyard with fountain like plunge pool there's a good-sized red brick terrace out the back of the house with an all stainless steel outdoor kitchen.

At the time Mister Osbourne and his then preggers fiancée and now wife, Lisa Stelly, purchased their Los Feliz residence word on the international real estate street was that he also owned a modest one bedroom apartment in London's Marylebone area that he on the market for £610,000. (We don't know the status of that apartment so don't bother asking. However, if one of the children in the U.K. know, please do let us know and we'll amend our discussion.)

*Inexplicably—at least we can't explain it—listing details from the time of Mister Osbourne's purchase shows the house has four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms in 4,074 square feet.

Clearly his mum Sharon decorated. It's beautiful! Those Osbournes know how to live. Good price.

This faux riche family cannot afford their phony image, or their tax obligations.

If Sharon has such great taste why did she hire that old hag Martin whatever her name is, to do their place over, only to sell very soon after moving in. And they "know how to live"? The clan seems very unhappy and bitter to me.

It can't be that good of a flip if they're selling for the same price they paid for it.

It's a spectacular property. As shown on Mama's listing when he bought it, the floors are gorgeous (look a bit dull in this set of pics). But without a doubt, it's staged -- with the possible exception of that dreadful blue sectional and maybe the rug under it. And c'mon, those are books are by the pound. Who's kidding who.

Speaking of bitter, does anyone think before they type?

Seriously, get over yourselves.

Mama, love you.

You're right, 8:38, this is a cranky one.

The listing in themls.com now (again?) gives the square footage as 4,074:

http://guests.themls.com/Details/CA/LOS-ANGELES/2220-N-BERENDO-ST/90027/14-752477.aspx

Could the larger number have been an error? Does it include the guest house? I sure don't know. I only know what I read on the internet.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles County Tax Assessor records this property 2220 Berendo - as having 4,810 sq ft:

http://maps.assessor.lacounty.gov/mapping/viewer.asp

The Assessor also curiously records the "effective date built" for this house as 1954.

It's now in escrow, having sold in less than a week.
